Game Z Festival Talk About the Best Horse Game of My Childhood: Mein Pferdehof
For local indie game festival Game Z in Zurich, I was invited to a panel called “My Favorite Game But Not My Own”. In it, game developers are supposed to introduce a game that they love, but didn’t work on.
Since I talk a lot about horse games at the moment and because I found it a lot more interesting to talk about a game no one in the room was likely to have heard of before, I chose my favorite horse game of all time: Pferd & Pony: Mein Pferdehof.
As I watched the talk again before posting it here, I did feel a little bit bad about the claim that this is the only horse game with a soul. I realize that the horse game genre can’t have been particularly rewarding to work in, with the budget constraints and publisher requests that dev studios around 2003 doubtless had to deal with.
But if there is a better, more well rounded horse game than Pferd & Pony: Mein Pferdehof, I haven’t found it yet.
Please note that the talk contains profanity and hyperbole aplenty. Viewer discretion is advised.
