My Horsez: The Dutch Browser Game celebrates its 16th Birthday and Launches for International Audiences

Static, image-based browser games may seem like a relic of the distant past and the early internet to the games industry at large, but in the horse game niche, this medium is going strong. With Horse World Online and My Horsez, two long-running broswer-based horse game projects celebrate significant anniversaries and invite the TMQ community to take a closer look. Stay tuned for more on Horse World Online soon, today we’re having a look at My Horsez: A Dutch Browser game that launches internationally this week after long-running success in its home country.

My Horsez describes itself as a point-and-click horse management game, available through the browser and as a mobile app for Android and iOS. Breeding horses, expanding your ranch, training and customization are part of its feature list. Somewhat atypically for these browser games though, My Horsez also offers exploration and a storyline, which the creators describe as follows:

My Horsez is based in Equada. You navigate through the game by opening the map and going to villages. By reaching higher levels and finishing storylines, your map will show new places in Equada to discover. In these new villages you unlock new game mechanics, stores and possibilities.

My Horsez initially went live in 2008, when its creator Marlinda was just 14 years old. Not satisfied by the competition at the time, the teenager taught herself about programming and databases to build and expand her own browser game project. By now, Marlinda works full time on it, along with two part-time employees. “We’ve grown entirely organically without any external funding, which we’re really proud of!,” she writes in an email to The Mane Quest.

The Dutch version of My Horsez boasts over 150’000 registered accounts. In an info doc about the game, Marlinda describes the game as “widely known in the Netherlands, being one of the biggest in the country.” As of November 7th 2024, the game is available in English and to international audiences.

“Finally launching an international version of the game is a big step for us, but one we’ve been very much looking forward to! Undoubtedly we’ll walk into lots of new challenges, but we are confident that launching an international server is the right move. It will enable us to expand our team, keep expanding the game and continue growing our community. We’re eager to share My Horsez with the rest of the world!’”

If you’re interested in giving the game a try for yourself, you can sign up for free on its website. According to Marlinda, the launch is going smoothly, with heartwarming, positive feedback abounding in the community.
