Star Stable Online announces Mobile version, Closed Beta opening soon
In a live stream this past week, genre giant Star Stable announced that their popular horse-based MMORPG will soon come to the small screen. The mobile port promises cross-platform play between mobile users and PC/Mac players, so you can seamlessly hop from one platform to the other depending on where you are.
Unlike the existing SSO Horses and SSO Friends apps, SSO Mobile will not be a companion to the PC game, but a full port that lets you explore the entire game world and complete quests as you would on the big screen.
To begin with, SSO Mobile will be for iOS only, with an Android version being a possibility for the future, but not yet definitely confirmed. The closed beta will focus on the Australian market, and Aussie players are encouraged to sign up as testers here. (that link will redirect to your local page if you’re not in Australia)
In the livestream, SSOM programmer Marcus explains:
Our intention is that it should be the exact same experience, playing on the desktop or the phone version. So for instance, if you start playing on the desktop, and then you go to a friend’s house, and you don’t have your computer with you, you can pick up your phone and continue from exactly where you were before.
He goes on to give some insight into a UI redesign that the SSO Mobile team has been working on, in order to fit the countless user interface elements of the full game onto a touchscreen.
For further questions, the SSO team has put together an FAQ page on Star Stable Online Mobile that you can find right here.
The full live stream also contains short interviews with the author of the SSO companion books as well as the musician and producer behind in-universe rock band The Miscreants. Have a look at it right here:
